Coast Dance Swing West

How do you get in the swing of things? Perhaps with the East Coast version, and its cool turns? Or, maybe you want the acrobatic lindy hop. Whichever you choose, these dances are loads of fun, and great exercise.

The 1960s was a pivotal decade in dance, an era of intense experimentation and rich invention. In this volume an impressive range of dance critics and scholars examine the pioneering choreographers and companies of the era, such as Anna Halprin's West Coast experiments, the innovative Judson Dance Theater, avant-garde dance subcultures in New York, the work of Meredith Monk and Kenneth King, and parallel movements in Britain. West Coast Swing - West Coast Swing (WCS) is a partner dance derived from Lindy Hop. It has the soul of a street dance but has been tamed by ballroom dance studios.

Whip (dance) - Whip is a kind of swing dance popular in Texas, USA, which is danced to Rhythm and Blues music. It is a slotted dance similar to West Coast Swing.

Swingout - The Swingout, Lindy Turn, or Whip is the defining dance move of Lindy Hop and West Coast Swing. Its variants are also used in Jive, East Coast Swing and Modern Jive.

East Coast Swing - East Coast Swing (ECS) is a partner dance derived from the Lindy Hop. The basic step is triple step, triple step, and a rock step.
